Chiropractic care

Not sure exactly what chiropractors do? Doctors of chiropractic practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes examination, diagnosis and treatment.

What chiropractic is

Chiropractic is a health care profession focused on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems and how they affect your overall health. Chiropractors most often treat back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.

Chiropractors are trained to examine, diagnose and treat, and to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises. They also give advice on nutrition, diet and lifestyle.

The chiropractic adjustment

The most common treatment is spinal manipulation, also called a chiropractic adjustment. Its goal is to restore movement to joints that have become restricted by an injury, whether from one event such as lifting something heavy the wrong way, or from repeated stress such as sitting with poor posture for long periods. Restoring movement helps relieve pain and muscle tightness and lets the tissues heal.

An adjustment rarely hurts. Some patients feel mild soreness afterwards, like after exercise, and it usually fades within 12 to 48 hours.

Chiropractic and your other care

For many problems, low back pain especially, chiropractic care can be the main treatment. It can also work alongside medical treatment by helping with the muscle and joint side of a medical condition.

Insurance. We accept most commercial insurance plans and Medicare. We are not currently participating with Pennsylvania Medical Assistance Managed Care (Medicaid).
